Washing and Setting Your Hair

Tonight I have a Youth Rally to attend at church and a cute hairstyle is a must. I haven’t washed my hair since last Tuesday, so I am going to start off fresh with washing and conditioning the mane. For my hair, it really doesn’t matter what brand of shampoo and conditioner I use as long as it moisturizes my hair. I, personally, use the Pantene 2 in 1 Moisturizing Conditioning Shampoo. I use this because I DO NOT grease my scalp. I discovered that my scalp is naturally oily; therefore if I greased it, my hair would be incredibly itchy before the end of the week. So, I wet my hair and then I make sure I lather really well because my hair is thick. I do this step about two or three times making sure I get suds in the middle of my head, where my hair is the thickest, and all sides of my head including my sideburns.

For me, it really doesn’t matter if I stay within the brand of products I use because I feel that certain brands of products put with other brands does a better job than using products of the same brand. After I complete the lathering and rinsing, I dry my hair completely with a towel and apply an ample amount of LeKair Cholesterol Plus for deep conditioning. It’s a strengthening and conditioning cream and contains cholesterol, Jojoba oil, Aloe Vera, and Collagen protein. So, I apply a generous amount to my hair making sure I distribute the cholesterol equally throughout my head; touching up the roots and the ends of my hair and then began combing it out with a big tooth comb. Using a big tooth comb when your hair is wet is better than using a smaller comb because it allows you to get the major kinks and tangles out without breaking your hair. If your hair is thick like mine, what also helps is parting your hair piece by piece or layer by layer and then combing it out with a big tooth comb. Once combed out, I then place a plastic shower cap on my head and sit under a hard cap dryer for fifteen minutes with the cholesterol still in my hair.

I washed the cholesterol out, dry my hair, and then apply Motions spray-on Nourish Leave-In Conditioner. It moisturizes, conditions, and strengthens the hair. After spraying a healthy amount of the conditioner in my hair, I part a layer of hair at the bottom of my head and apply TCB Foaming Wrap and Set Lotion which helps obtain smoother sets, straighter wraps, and extra body and shine. I applied the foam to the whole layer of parted hair and began rolling my hair with Soft-Twist Rollers. They are not the average hard plastic rollers which is why I LOVE to use them to get a full, long, and healthy spiral curl. So, I repeat the following steps until all of my hair is set and rolled, and then I sit under the dryer until my hair is completely dry. Once my hair is dry, I unroll it, seperate my curls, and apply an even amount of Suave Extreme Hold 10 Unscented Hairspray from top to bottom for a strong, healthy hold on my curls leaving them soft and full of volume.

Steps:

1. Wash hair with your choice of shampoo and conditioner

2. Apply LeKair Hair Cholesterol for a deep conditioning from roots to ends of hair

3. Comb hair with a big tooth comb while cholesterol is still in

4. Cover head with a plastic cap and sit under blow dryer for 15 minutes

5. Completely wash cholesterol out of hair and evenly spray Motions Leave-In Conditioner on hair

6. Part layers of hair and apply your choice of Foaming Wrap and Set Lotion and began rolling hair with your choice of rollers

7. Once hair is completely rolled, sit under dryer until hair is completely dry

8. Unroll hair and carefully seperate curls

9. Spray hair with Suave Extreme Hold 10 Unscented Hairspray for a soft, healthy hold

Straight, Straighter,...STRAIGHTENED!!

Thank God for Madam C.J. Walker for inventing the hot comb which has evolved into the modern day flat iron. I believe without this invention, us women would be traveling with cave woman hair thinking that un-flat ironed, frizzy, kinky, and wild hair is APPROPRIATE! Wheew…well we don’t have to worry about that, because as you look around everyone uses and owns at least three flat irons (in case of emergencies); celebrities, men, women, children, dogs, etc. However, the problem comes in with everyone not knowing HOW TO FLAT IRON HAIR!! Yes, I know what you’re thinking, “What? That’s absurd!” Believe it or not most of us women AND men actually have no idea of how to really flat iron hair to where it has volume, shine, and less damage from heat, but THAT’S OKAY…that is why I am here to fly to your rescue by posting these videos of how to CORRECTLY straighten your hair. So…ENJOY!

FOR MY WOMEN OF COLOR

The "NATURAL" Look

Okay, so I've noticed that my women of color are moving towards the "natural" look more than the "processed" look and that is absolutely gorgeous. Especially the texture of the hair, you can really tell the difference between hair that has been chemically processed and hair that hasn't...IT'S HEALTHIER. I am not saying everyone should go natural....I'm just saying that it's a good look and if the relaxers aren't really doing your hair justice..."then the natural way is the way to go". I am not natural, however, a good friend of mine is and one way she brings out the curls in her look is with leave-in conditioner and a very light oil. The curl that you have when your hair is freshly washed stays and the oil does a good job by keeping it moisturized, light, and shiny.
